In March 2011, Marcus Hahn certified the Karibe REDD+ project, falsely projecting carbon savings of 6.8 million tonnes per year by claiming the forest was under threat. A 2023 investigation revealed that the forest faced virtually no deforestation, rendering the sold carbon credits worthless.
